SVC-04 · Machine safety & hazardous areas

Safety engineered in from the concept stage.

Machine safety and explosive-atmosphere compliance carry the most risk on any industrial site. We assess, design, install and verify them properly, and document everything for your compliance file.

What we do

  • Machine risk assessment to AS 4024
  • Safety-rated control circuit design
  • Physical guarding design and installation
  • Safety system verification and validation
  • EEHA design for explosive atmospheres
  • Hazardous-area installation, inspection and zone classification support

Initial consultation to implementation

One team from the first walk-around to sign-off.

We don't just write the report and leave. The same engineers assess the machine, design the safety system, install it, commission it and validate that it works.

STAGE 01

Consultation

An initial site visit to understand the machine, how it's operated and maintained, and what you need from us.

STAGE 02

Risk assessment

Hazards identified and assessed to AS 4024, with the required safety functions defined.

STAGE 03

Design

Safety-rated control circuits, guarding and device placement, backed by stopping distance calculations.

STAGE 04

Installation

Guarding, light curtains, interlocks, safety relays and controllers installed by our own crew.

STAGE 05

Commissioning

Every safety function tested on the running machine, integrated with your existing controls.

STAGE 06

Validation

The safety system validated against the design, with documentation for your compliance file.

Stopping distance calculations

Guards and light curtains in the right place.

A light curtain or guard only protects people if it's far enough from the hazard that the machine stops before anyone can reach it. We measure how long your machine actually takes to stop and calculate the minimum safe distance, so devices are positioned on evidence, not guesswork.

  • Machine stopping time measured on site
  • Minimum safety distances calculated for light curtains, guards and interlocked doors
  • Safety device placement and guard design based on the results
  • Calculations recorded as part of your safety documentation

FAQs

Common questions

Do you do machine risk assessments?

Yes. We assess machines to AS 4024, identify the required safety functions, and design the control circuits and guarding to meet them.

Do you do stopping distance calculations?

Yes. We measure the machine's stopping time and calculate the minimum safety distance for light curtains, guards and interlocked doors, then position the safety devices based on the results.

Can you add safety systems to an existing machine?

Yes. A lot of our safety work is retrofitting guarding, light curtains, interlocks and safety relays to machines that are already in production.

Do you verify and document the safety system?

Yes. Safety systems are verified and validated after installation, and you get the risk assessment and test documentation for your compliance records.

Do you work in hazardous areas?

Yes. We're EEHA certified and handle design, installation and inspection in explosive atmospheres to AS/NZS 60079, including zone classification support.
